Offended: Prayer leader beaten for refusing meal

FAISALABAD: A prayer leader was beaten for not breaking the fast before starting Maghrib prayers in Aroti area of Toba Tek Singh on Sunday. The Aroti SHO told The Express Tribune that Muhammad Hayat, a resident of Chak 764-GB brought rice to a mosque and offered it to Hafiz Ghulam Mustafa to be distributed among people for iftar. He said Hayat urged Mustafa to break the fast and eat the rice before starting prayers but Mustafa refused. The SHO said Hayat attacked Mustafa and beat him up. He said some people present at the scene rescued Mustafa and took him to a rural health centre where doctors later said his condition was stable. The SHO said police had registered a case on Mustafa’s complaint and started investigation.  He said no arrest had been made so far.
