LAHORE: Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued a notice to the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Faisal Saleh Hayat on a contempt of court petition.

The court directed Hayat to file a reply within a week. The court issued the order on a petition filed by Arshad Khan Lodhi.

A PFF faction, headed by Lodhi, had earlier suspended Hayat from office, accusing him of embezzlement of federation funds and of incompetence.

Lodhi was nominated as interim president. On June 30, Lodhi obtained a stay order from the court against election of a new president.

“Defying court orders, Hayat called the election on July 1 and was elected president.

Therefore, contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against him and the election should be declared null and void,” he said.
