Taking control: Transporters urged not to over-charge commuters

Commissioner meets CNG association representatives, local transporters

KARACHI: City commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has asked transporters to ensure that commuters are charged in accordance with the CNG rates.

Addressing representatives of local transporters and Pakistan CNG association, Karachi zone, at a meeting on Monday, Siddiqui assured that the problems they face due to the lack of CNG supply will be duly communicated to the authorities. However, he urged the transporters not to raise fares for local and inter-city bus services during the month of Ramazan and Eidul Fitr.

Karachi Transport Ittehad president Syed Irshad Bukhari informed the commissioner that shutting the CNG stations for 48 hours often cause the transporters to discontinue the service due to the unavailability of a relatively cost-effective fuel. Bukhari added that they were aware of the problems and, as an alternative, they attempt to use their petrol-driven vehicles.
