Embezzlement of funds: Town municipal officers remanded

KARACHI: An accountability court on Saturday remanded five officials of the Sujawal town municipal administration to the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) till July 15 on accusations of involvement in embezzlement of funds worth millions of rupees allocated for development schemes. Wasiq Malik, Aurangzeb, Agha Jahangir, Muhammad Ali Shah and Iqbal Qasim Memon were arrested on information given by the former head of the municipality, Mumtaz Ali Zardari, who was recently released by the court after he entered into a bargain plea. Zardari reportedly returned all the money he made during his tenure through irregularities in land allotments and drawing salaries and pensions of ghost employees. An investigator said the suspects have confessed that a share out of the corruption amount was being given to influential political personalities of the area.
