KARACHI:
The International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) has extended the deadline of submission of entries for the upcoming World Championships to be hosted by Pakistan in August.

The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) had not received the expected amount of entries before the July 5 deadline, and thus the IBSF has decided to extend the date by 15 days.

“The PBSA has been told that the IBSF has extended the deadline by 15 days for entries in the World Championships, so now those countries who hadn’t confirmed their participation yet can do so by July 20,” PBSA President Alamgir Sheikh told The Express Tribune. “We’re hoping to host players from at least 25 nations. I can’t reveal all the names right now, but India are among the 10 countries who have confirmed their intent to visit.”

The official further said that the PBSA has asked their Indian counterparts to send the final list of their squad in time so that No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for them can be obtained well before their date of arrival.

According to Sheikh, the most important task right now is to obtain NOCs for the Indian contingent in time and then concentrate on getting clearance for other nations.

A PBSA delegation would soon be meeting officials from the Ministry of Interior to ensure that clearance is granted without any unnecessary delays.

“As confirmations continue to pour in, we want to receive clearance for all participants as soon as possible so that we can then focus on finalising arrangements for the championship instead of worrying about NOCs till the last minute,” he added.
