KARACHI: Pakistani tennis ace Aisamul Haq Qureshi and his partner Luxembourg's Gilles Muller kicked off their campaign at Wimbledon with a 3-0 victory over Germany's Benjamin Becker and Venezuela's Roberto Maytin in the men doubles event on Thursday.
Aisam and Muller took the first set comfortably 6-3 with the help of two aces. The duo continued to dominate in the second set as well, winning the second set 6-3 with the help of four aces and hitting six winners without ceding any points in either double faults or unforced errors.
The duo sealed their win in the third set with another 6-3, overcoming their opponents in just an hour and 22 minutes.
Aisam and Muller will now face 10th seeded Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in the second round.
In addition to the doubles event, Aisam will also be competing in the mixed doubles event where he will partner with Russia's Vera Dushevina.
