PESHAWAR:

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police demanded the provincial government provide extra funds for security for local government re-elections.

The money would be spent on fool-proof security, transportation of election materials, providing policemen to polling stations, and arrangements for Sehri and Iftar for them.

Officials of the home department said around five platoons of Pakistan Army would be required for deployment at 358 polling stations to maintain law and order on July 5.

The provincial government has also written to the federal government for deployment of army personnel at polling stations.

Of 29 polling station in Peshawar district where re-polling was announced, 15 have been declared sensitive where extra police personnel would be deployed.
