Head constable Nigar Ali, a resident of Hazar Khwani village, was gunned down on Ring Road within the jurisdiction of Yakatoot police station on Monday morning.
According to a police official, Ali was waiting for his transport by the roadside. Two motorcyclists, who were armed with pistols, came by and opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
Ali was deployed as a crime scene investigation official at Malik Saad Police Lines.
“It is without any doubt a targeted attack; the assailants escaped after committing the crime,” added the Yakatoot official.
The policeman had been working for the department since 1999 and had also served as a district reserve section commander from 2002 to 2007.
Ali had recently been promoted to the rank of head constable. He was deployed in the Urdu section at Police Lines where he used to map crime scenes. He left behind three children and a wife. Ali’s funeral prayers were offered at Police Lines with the CCPO, SSP operations and other high-ranking police officials in attendance.
