Police head constable gunned down in Peshawar

Official says head constable, Mirza, was fired at while he was on his way to the police line

PESHAWAR: A police head constable was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Monday in the jurisdiction of Yakatoot police station in Peshawar, officials said.

"Head constable Mirza was fired at while he was on his way to the police line," an official from the Yaaktoot police station said. As per initial investigations, the assailants fired at him from a motorcycle.

Soon after the incident heavy contingents of police cordoned off the area and started a search operation to arrest the accused. However, no arrests have been made so far.

Earlier this month, unknown miscreants threw two hand grenades at a police post in Tauheedahad situated within the jurisdiction of Yakatot police station.

Of the two hand grenades one hit the main gate, while the other managed to explode inside the post. After the attack police resorted to firing in the air which caused further panic among the residents. No casualty or injuries were reported after the incident however the attackers managed to escape.
