Car manufacturing: China invited to establish plant

ISLAMABAD: The ministry of industries and production has invited the government of China to establish an electric car manufacturing plant in its export processing zones (EPZs).

Pakistan has invited Chinese investors to set up such a facility in the EPZs to target the Middle East market which, in addition to having close proximity to Pakistan, is a trans-shipment hub for re-export to other countries of the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, America and Central Asia.

The ministry has also suggested that the best locations for establishment of such a plant are Karachi and Gwadar. An incentive for manufacturing in
EPZs is that the import of all inputs necessary for manufacturing in EPZs for the purpose of exports are exempt from all duties and taxes.
