PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police has signed an MoU with Pakistan Provincial Service Academy to introduce a junior commander course for DSPs.

According to a press release, the agreement was signed during a ceremony held at Central Police Office in the city on Wednesday by Headquarters Additional IGP and PSSA Director General.

The ceremony was attended by Headquarters Additional IGP Mian Muhammad Asif, DIG Training Muhammad Ali Gandapur, AIG Establishment Fida Hassan Shah, AIG Logistics Asif Iqbal Mohmand and DSP Training Aneela Naz. From the academy, Director General Nighat Mehroz and Assistant Director Najma Sehr were present on the occasion.

Mandatory course

The course will ensure transparency in the promotion of deputy superintendents to SPs in the police department. Under the course, the academy will train nominated DSPs for three months. The police department will pay the academy for the course and provide it with details of the modules which will be taught.

The press statement added the course will be mandatory for DSPs and they will only be promoted to SPs once they have passed it.

In a first

According to the press release, this is the first time in the history of the country that such a course has been introduced.

“A system of mandatory training was present for constables before they were promoted to the rank of inspectors,” the statement added. “But no such requirement existed to test and train DSPs before promoting them to the rank of SPs. The agreement is expected to go a long way to ensure transparency in the promotion of DSPs and will strengthen the police force.”
