An intense blaze erupted at a godown in Shershah on Wednesday morning. While no casualties were reported, the fire caused massive losses.
Fire department officials said that the fire broke out at the Ghousia warehouse, where shoes and textile goods were being stored, at around 6am.
The third-degree inferno, made more intense due to the presence of chemicals in the godown, quickly spread to some nearby warehouses.
Fire tenders from other stations outside the area were summoned due to the intensity and special arrangements were made to extinguish the flames. A fire department official claimed that the congested lanes and encroachments hindered access to the burning buildings.
The owners of the warehouses said that the fire caused them heavy financial losses, while the buildings were also damaged. However, no casualties were reported.
