Saving heritage: ‘Walled City’s condition to be lifted’
He said the lawmaking would help improve the Walled City’s condition

The planning department of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) would complete legislation of building regulations and heritage property rules in consultation with traders and residents of area, WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said on Monday. Lashari shared the draft of the proposed legislation with traders and residents of the Walled City who asked for 30 days to give their input. He said the lawmaking would help improve the Walled City’s condition. “I believe that the people of the Walled City are part of the authority,” he said. He said the purpose of the public hearing was to give the local residents a sense of ownership. “It is aimed at beautifying the Walled City in collaboration with the local community,” Lashari said. He said proper legislation against encroachments and extortionists would help protect the cultural heritage of the city.
