PESHAWAR:

Coalition partners in the provincial government, Jamaat-e-Islami welcomed the constitution of an enquiry committee to look into irregularities which took place on May 30, the day local government elections were held. The committee has been formed under the supervision of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary.

According to a statement issued by JI Peshawar chapter on Saturday, the party has asked that an impartial committee, comprising members of all political parties, should be established.

One member each should be taken from Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami, JI, Pakistan Peoples Party, Qaumi Watan Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, PML-Quaid, and others.

JI district ameer Sabir Hussain Awan, in the statement was quoted as saying, “Massive rigging had taken place in K-P during LG polls”. He urged anyone found involved in rigging should be exposed and the culprits should be brought to justice.

Awan had earlier lashed out against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, claiming it was the ruling party which had manipulated the outcome of the LG elections. The JI, however, remains the coalition partner of PTI and AJIP in K-P.
