KARACHI: Inadequate disposal of waste incurs an annual loss of Rs365 billion to the country, said Sindh Solid Waste Management Board managing director Roshan Ali Shaikh on Friday. Chairing a meeting to review measures adopted by the board to address the situation in the province, he said the loss registered across the country, including Sindh, is inclusive of implications on public health, damage to infrastructure and hindrance in smooth functioning of systems as well as schemes. He said that in line with the directives of the chief minister, the board has taken up the task to not only ensure prompt removal and adequate disposal of solid waste but also that of domestic waste, mainly including material of organic nature. Talking about environmental degradation, Shaikh said that a comprehensive approach is being adopted by the board to bring an end to the threat.
