Banned cricketer apologises for his actions which brought harm to the image of the PCB and Pakistan as a nation

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday released banned former captain Salman Butt's confession statement in which he repents his actions of wrongdoing in cricket.

He starts the statement by apologising to all the people who have been hurt or disgraced due to his actions.

In the pointers he clearly admits being guilty of being a party in bowling of two deliberate no balls in the Lord’s Test match.

He then ‘unreservedly’ and ‘unconditionally’ apologises for the harm his actions have done to the image of PCB and also Pakistan as a nation.

He then urges impending cricketers to not indulge in such activities as it ‘damages the sport of cricket’.

Salman then forwards his availability for rehabilitation and for public education to create awareness about the adverse impacts of partaking in nefarious cricket activities.

In the same London incident, there were intimidating pictures published on CURRENT TEAM CRICKETERS as well. NO action! It's like a mafia /or Double Agent game; if you are not caught, you are a HERO; if unfortunately caught we will totally disown you.

Bewildered | 9 years ago | Reply What ever Salman Butt did -- 2 deliberate harmless 'No balls' for some cash which couldn't possibly have any impact on the match result -- was certainly below the level of a captain of a national team of any morally strong nation, even if it weren't against the rules or law. However, when a whole nation is forced to live in a top to bottom corrupt system where corruption is norm of life and where almost every individual is somehow involved in corruption in one way or the other - either you're taking bribe, or guilty of paying bribe willingly or otherwise -- and as result the moral values of the individuals and the society as whole are touching to the lowest levels, then asking a few to show saintly character is quite unrealistic and perhaps a task impossible. I wonder what exactly PCB has achieved by staging this melodrama of public humiliation of its captain -- to a lesser extent -- and the nation -- to greater extent -- when it herself is indulged in all manners of corruption and misappropriations.

MJ | 9 years ago | Reply @ Ali S. I beg to differ. Salman Butt should not be allowed within 2 kilometers of any cricketing facility and within 100 meters of any cricketer. He should not be getting any part of his livelihood from cricket.

Ali S | 9 years ago | Reply What a vile person. I remember his father saying that he was willing to be hanged if his son was proven guilty. This pathological cheater and liar should be made an example of and resigned to the dustbin of cricket's worst failures. His highest aspiration now should be having a moderately successful domestic cricket career that pays the bills - anything more than that is far beyond him.

Gul Tasim | 9 years ago | Reply There is also signed declaration document(in London Court) by this Zardari of Cricket that he was mastermind behind all the match fixing during his tenure as a Captain of Pakistan Cricket team and had close links with Indian bookies. In that declaration's he also admitted his involvement in spot and match fixing and will never ever be allowed to return to UK
