ISLAMABAD: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the capital police have busted a gang involved in looting foreigners and locals, claimed a police spokesperson on Tuesday.

The spokesperson said a team of SIU has arrested a gang involved in looting foreigners and locals at gunpoint in different parts of the city. The men were identified as Hamza Safdar and Ali Abbas who belong to Lahore and Rawalpindi respectively. Police recovered stolen items and weapons from them.

According to the spokesperson, during preliminary investigation, the men confessed to have committed various robberies in Super Market, Jinnah Super, Aabpara, Karachi Company and Islamabad Highway. They also snatched the mobile phone and purse from the deputy chief of the Embassy of Bosnia.

Similarly, they snatched a purse from a foreigner, identified as Dulce Maria Rodiriguez Pearl in Sector F-6/2 on February 2, 2015. In addition, they confessed to have snatched cash and valuables from Amna Saleem, a resident of Islamabad, on March 25, 2015 near Jinnah Super Market.

IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan and SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani have appreciated the performance of SIU.
