ISLAMABAD:

The capital’s police chief on Monday announced formation of a committee to resolve problems being faced by the business community, said a press release issued by Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Islamabad (ICCI). The announcement came during a meeting of Islamabad IGP with ICCI President Muzzamil Hussain Sabri. The committee will comprise police and ICCI officials.

IGP Tahir Alam Khan has nominated SSP Jamil Hashmi as head of the committee whereas 15 other police officials will also be part of it. The police chief asked the chamber to nominate its members so the committee could start working.

Earlier, Sabri highlighted various security-related issues being faced by traders. He said security threats have increased for business centres, including Centaurus Mall, and police should ensure better security arrangements there. He also called for revival of the Citizen Police Liaison Committee in Islamabad and reshuffling of the reconciliation committee with proper representation of the business community.

The IGP also announced the launch of Safe City Project in September and informed that1,890 security cameras will be installed in the capital as part of the project. The project will have a computer-aided dispatch system, facial recognition software and a vehicle management system to help police intercept suspects. Besides, a control room will be operated by police officers for which they will receive training from UK. “After installation of the project, check-posts will be removed from the city,” he added.
