Waheedur rehman murder: Suspect remanded to police custody
ATC-II judge allowed the IO to take the suspect for 14 days on a physical remand
KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent on Monday a suspect to police custody on a 14-day physical remand in the Karachi University professor Dr Waheedur Rehman murder case. Dr Syed Waheedur Rehman was gunned down on April 29 near the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases. The killing sparked a wave of protests by the academic and journalist fraternities who urged the authorities to take strict action against the assailants. One-and-a-half-months later, the police finally produced a suspect, Samiuz Zaman, allegedly involved in the murder before the ATC-I. The investigation officer of the case contended that the suspect needed to be interrogated for the whereabouts of the other absconding suspects. Approving the plea, the ATC-II judge allowed the IO to take the suspect for 14 days on a physical remand.
