Express December 15, 2010

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Wednesday said that the provincial government is ready to sell the disputed land in an open auction.

The minister was speaking in connection to the Rs5 billion land scam uncovered by a report published in The Express Tribune today.

Hussain, while talking to Express News, said that the land was previously given on lease according to the market rate and the lease ended in June, 2010. He said that the previous party was not ready to increase the rate of the land.

As reported earlier, the province’s Chief Minister, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, had secretly approved the allotment of 170 acres of olive orchards to an unknown construction and manufacturing firm, with official documents available with The Express Tribune confirming the land scam.

That was so refreshing to see, a politician who is at least willing to admit that he made a mistake. Something tells me though that this will not be the start of new trend. I can't really see Shabaz Sharif or Altaf Hussain apologizing for statements they have made.
