Nawaz against plans to 'overthrow' current govt

Sharif says he will not become part of any undemocratic force which plans to overthrow the sitting elected government.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that he will not become part of any undemocratic force which plans to overthrow the sitting elected government.

Speaking at a public gathering in Skardu, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief said he believes in fair politics and will never deceive anyone.

However, Sharif criticised the government saying it did not respond positively to his offer of working jointly to help the flood vicitms. Sharif added that his party will rebuild five villages destroyed by the floods in Gilgit-Baltistan.

He also insisted that his party will continue opposing the imposition of the Reform General Sales Tax (RGST).

The PML-N chief recently accepted President Asif Ali Zardari's invitation to attend a dinner for Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.

When he again (MARK MY WORDS, HE WILL) will make a mess of things than they would beg army to overthrow him and clean house. So friends who is at fault here..

Moazzam Ewing | 14 years ago | Reply Does anybody remember what Nawaz was trying to do in 1998? Does anybody remember the 15th Amendment that Nawaz tried to pass? Here is a quick reminder from a editorial written in 1998: If the 15th amendment comes to pass because some Senators are bought off, it will spell the death knell of federal unity and democracy in Pakistan. It will be the most ruthless exploitation of Islam for political purposes in modern history. It will paralyse all attempts at economic reform which are so crucial to the existence of the country. And it will sow the seeds of the most rabid sectarian divisions in civil society. In the end, it will swallow not only its victims but also its own perpetrators. The 15th amendment’s proponent is the most reckless and most dangerous politician to have sat on the gaddi in Islamabad. It is therefore clearer than ever that Mr Sharif’s exit is a prerequisite for the reconstruction of Pakistan’s state and civil society without which the country will not survive.

Like all the others, I too want a change but know it well and clear that the dismissal of the current govt will bring more instability. Mian Sb you just need to be more firm with the govt on the corruption issue. Stopping corruption and bringing forward competant people like Ishaq Dar in my opinion is the best solution. If in any case, the govt is overthrown, then I dont see anyone more than Nawaz Sharif eligible for ruling our country. Best of Luck Mian Sahib.

Why punjab government is currently in the biggest financial troubles. Mr. Nawaz sharif please tell first exactly what was the deal with Saudi Government and General Musharaf. Please bring governance in your party check University Degrees of your all assembly members.

You have started this to differentiate yourself from the rest (especially the more popular one which is more of a tabloid). We like it, as compared to other paper you are more balanced in your coverage. BUT why do you keep printing these useless news items that add nothing to the debate. Who care what this fellow or Zardari or other politicos say. They are in it for money and nothing else. when have these parties (private companies) done anything for the people. So please do not torment us any more.
