KARACHI: Two suspected gangsters were killed in the late hours of Saturday during an encounter with law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood. The LEAs also rounded up four alleged target killers in a separate raid.

A Rangers spokesperson said the paramilitary force and police carried out a joint operation in Lyari late Saturday night. He said the gangsters resorted to indiscriminate firing and tried to escape when LEAs reached their hideout.

“In the ensuing gunfight, two wanted criminals were killed. However, some of their companions managed to escape,” he added.

The slain gangsters were later identified as target killers, Arsalan and Muhammad Nasir. Arsalan, affiliated with the Baba Ladla group, was involved in more than 30 targeted killings and extortion cases. Nasir was affiliated with the Uzair Baloch’s Jamil Changa group and was involved in 31 cases of target killings.

Separately, the Counter Terrorism Department’s Anti-Extremist Cell claimed it apprehended four men allegedly involved in various cases of targeted killings during a raid near Old Sabzi Mandi area.
