Restoration: Shahi Hammam opens for public

With the completion of restoration work, the Shahi Hammam (Royal Bath) was opened for public in a ceremony on Sunday.
The entry ticket has been set at Rs20 for local visitors and Rs400 for foreigners.

With the completion of restoration work, the Shahi Hammam (Royal Bath) was opened for public in a ceremony on Sunday.
Rashid Makhdum, chief consultant architect at Aga Khan Cultural Services (AKCS) Pakistan, said the team had restored areas in the vicinity of hot and cold water ponds. He said damage in some areas was so great that those could not be restored to their original state. The WLCA has also arranged guided tours of the premises and is showing a documentary on how Shahi Hammam originally worked.
The AKCS team had been conducting restoration work in collaboration with WCLA since July 2013. The team has removed encroachments in front of the hammam. It has also developed a new sewerage system for the site.
The ceremony was attended by scores of residents of the area.
