DI KHAN: A written application addressed to DI Khan DPO has given a new angle to the murder investigation of former law and parliamentary affairs minister, Israrullah Gandapur.

The former minister was killed in a suicide attack on October 16, 2013 in Kulachi, nearly 45 kilometres away from DI Khan city. Nine others were also killed in the attack.

Insiders familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune Additional Secretary Excise and Taxation Inamullah Gandapur, the deceased’s brother, sent a letter to DPO Ejaz Khan asking for protection for his family.

“Minister for Revenue Ali Amin Gandapur, his brothers, Umar Amin Gandapur and Faisal Amin Gandapur, and his cousin, Khurram Jawed Gandapur, are conspiring against my family,” stated the application.

It added, “My family is under increasing danger from Ali Amin, his brothers and cousin. They are planning to harm us. They should be held responsible if anything happens to us.”

Inamullah’s letter asked the DPO to direct Cantt and Kulachi police stations to take suitable measures to provide protection to his family. So far, Kulachi police station has registered the information in its roz namcha (daily register).

Earlier this week, PTI Minister for Agriculture Ikramullah Gandapur said an enquiry commission should be established to investigate Israrullah’s death. Subsequently, Ali Amin also backed the suggestion, saying suitable steps should be taken to probe the matter.
