ISLAMABAD:

Acting upon the FUUAST management’s complaint, the police on Wednesday registered a case against 40 people, including the former vice-chancellor, for instigating unrest at the university.

The Aabpara police on FUUAST Director Security Shah Mehar’ complaint have registered cases against former VC Dr Zafar Iqbal and other university officials and several students.

The case has been registered under sections 324 (attempt to commit murder), 109 (punishment of abetment if the act abetted committed), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of 50 rupees), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and 337-H (punishment for being hurt by rash or negligent act).

Sources said the police arrested SSF students instead of arresting PSF members who initiated the firing.

Aabpara SHO Abdur Rehman claimed he had arrested students affiliated with both the federations. The nabbed students have been sent on a 14-day judicial remand.
