Sargodha blast: Two suspected terrorists die in IED explosion
Two suspected terrorists died Saturday morning when an improvised explosive device (IED) in their possession exploded near the busy Khayyam Chowk area of the city.
According to eyewitnesses, the men – later identified as Ghulam Rasul and Muhammad Sultan – were sitting on benches placed in a street close to the roundabout and were busy in a discussion which later turned into an altercation, followed by actual blows.
It was during their scuffle that an explosion took place, killing them on the spot. Police said one of the victims was carrying an IED.
After the incident, officials of police and bomb disposal unit reached the spot and collected vital forensic evidence. Later the bodies were shifted to Sargodha’s District Headquarters Hospital.
Police later raided the houses of deceased Ghulam Rasul and Sultan, residents of Sargodha and Kushab, respectively, and arrested several suspects. They also established security posts at the entry and exit points of all the four districts of the division and mounted search operations at guests’ houses and bus stands.
