A Chinese man who wanted to change his car, decided to pay using 660,000 coins and 20,000 low value banknotes.

Gan walked into a Shenyang dealership and used 660,000 Yuan ($136,000) in coins and 20,000 ($4,000) Yuan in banknotes to buy his new 4S vehicle.

He warned staff at the car dealership in advance about his unusual payment method, as he brought the money in neatly wrapped packages.

Each coin and note was worth just one yuan ($0.16; 10p), and the hefty sum, weighing four tonnes in total, took up more than 4m (13ft) of floor space within the showroom.

It took ten very obliging staff members to move the coins from the back of a truck into the store.

According to Gan, he paid in cash because he had collected a huge amount of small denomination coins and notes through the petrol station he worked at.

"As our station is in the suburbs, there are few banks. So we didn't deposit the coins and decided to use them to buy a car for our company," he says.
