Altaf says MQM will end feudal rule

RAWALPINDI: MQM Chief Altaf Hussain said that his party would set the masses free of the feudal system. Altaf Hussain stressed that MQM would rid the country of 62- year shackles of the politics of inheritance.

He spoke to the people of Punjab through a telephonic address to the party conventions in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan. He said that the time has come when politcal parties realise their responsibility to the marginalised especially the poor.

The MQM chief said that the nation is currently facing problems like poverty, shortage of drinking water and unemployment. Politicians only make promises but MQM is determined to fulfil them. And if people of Punjab support MQM then he will eliminate the old culture of brutality from the province.

He further said that the people of Punjab have to decide to bring about the change as MQM has entered into Punjab to fight for the rights of the people.

Earlier, party leaders had asked if a convention could be held near Minar-e-Pakistan, but were declined permission due to security concerns.

The MQM Coordination Committee said that about 50,000 people have joined MQM from the 9 districts of the Rawalpindi Zonal Office. Punjab has been divided into4 zones; Upper Punjab, Lower Punjab, Central Punjab and the Lahore Zone.

The MQM has begun registering people from southern Punjab for membership in the party. More than 200,000 have signed up so far.

I am confident, to expect any more from these current elite next to impossible. so lets have a change by electing new comer. for GOD sake elect peoples among you only so you can have access to them.

If Altaf Hussain wants to do it, he should come back to Pakistan and surrender his British nationality.

But why he should come back ? What purpose would actually his come back serve, if he's really in touch with masses more than the leaders present in Pakistan.

Majeed Ali Khan | 14 years ago | Reply ASA It is easy to critisize some-one, but before doing this one should never forget ground realities, I mean the the way common citizens in Karachi were treated, by almost all politicians, is no secret, but now the past has gone Karachi now stand very prominent, due to only 4 years of fair and proper work by MQM. we should judge only on this basis now work unitedly for poor poeple of Pakistan, only MQM can deliver due to its grass root politics and middle class leadership.

Ali Haider | 14 years ago | Reply Dear Najeeb I acknowledge he has done a lot for Karachi. These is absolutely no doubt about that in my mind. And what I am saying does not negate his position in Karachi, in fact it reinforces it. It might be fair for you to have him sit in London and work in Karachi but not for many like me. He should come back and run politics from his country. I don't think that should be a problem given his claims about his popularity all over the country. Looting money in my opinion is a sin and almost all of our politicians are involved. This is the reason why I do not support any one of this lot. But I sincerely believe that MQM has to do a lot more to wash away its dark past in order to be "really" popular. People do not forget and do not forgive. There is a lot of work to be done. If Altaf Hussain wants to do it, he should come back to Pakistan and surrender his British nationality.

He has to clear his impression (clear the stigmas attached to his personality) before he can even think of winning from anywhere other than Karachi.

syed najeeb akhtar | 14 years ago | Reply After reading Mr. Omer comments , I can only remember 1- these power full feudal lords, capitalist , industrialist of PUNJAB, what they have done for the prosperity of normal peoples in PUNJAB. nothing they just made their own fortune and established their own next 7 generation. 2- these SARDAR of Baluchistan who are having crocodile tears for their Baloch , what they did when they were and even currently in power. in fact they did all their best to keep their peoples away from education. ( 64 MP and 63 are ministers) 3- exactly like above Sindh vadera also did nothing , in fact they have their own army to control their Farmer. 4- I don’t have much knowledge about Khyber Pakhtoon khawa but I am sure situation must be same there as well , else majority of Pakhtoon shouldn’t migrate to other province. I am not a member of MQM but when I see city of Karachi, within 4 years it looks real prosperous beautiful city. Means all development funds of last 57 years before MQM mayor gone in corrupt Politician pocket. If a honest mayor can change basic infrastructure in 4 years imagine if they get chance to rule on country , I am sure they will deliver what we have been waiting for 63 years . We have to unite on 1 issue “ do not select same in next general election” Select from your own area who lives also among you. You can hold them responsible as they lives within you. Thanks

MQM's convention in Punjab was a successful shut up call those who branded the party racist. The party presented themselves infront of the people of Punjab with their tried and tested success model rather than usual hollow claims. Now its upto the people of Punjab to decide whether they want to get their problems resolved or want to live like the way they are living.

They are welcome in Punjab but let me add here that the convention proves nothing at all. Next general elections will be the real test. Also , Altaf needs to cut down on his dramatics to be taken seriously. Shouting and screaming and crocodile tears wont help bag Punjabi votes. People like Kamal should be used for promoting the party in the province. That will make a difference , not altaf bhais sessions.

Unlike others it does not sell seats. It would be definitely a tough contender in next Punjab elections. For sure if given chance it can bring out a real revolution in Pakistan.

We are sick and tired of Nawaz, Shehbaz, PPP and Shujaat..I initially hated MQM but i love them now because i happen to live in Karachi and I saw how Mustafa Kamal worked there and all their MPAs and MNA shoulder to shoulder on the streets like anybody else. I have changed my opinion ever since. Sometimes I get borred with Altaf Hussains style but at least he is not lootera. We Punjabis welcome MQM in Punjab hats off to MQM

Time is coming closer for the looters and plunders. It is better for them to bring back their illegally earned money to Pakistan and return it to the government to save their skin, otherwise it is going to be the dooms days for all of them. The right to rule the country should be in the hands of 98% oppressed people. Masses will reject 2% people who have made hostage 98% people in their own country. The change in Pakistan’s political scenario is in the offing.
