Job Insecurity: SECP head’s appointment challenged
it was against the law as he has already served two terms as SECP commissioner
ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court issued notices on Tuesday to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) chairman and the finance secretary while hearing a petition challenging the chairman’s appointment. Justice Athar Minallah issued notices to respondents with directions to submit reply in a fortnight. Petitioner Naseem Iqbal through his counsel Asma Jahangir has challenged SECP Chairman Muhammad Zafarul Haq Hijazi’s appointment, claiming it was against the law as he has already served two terms as SECP commissioner. The petitioner alleged that Hijazi was able to secure a third term as commissioner only due to his connections with Ishaq Dar. After preliminary hearing, the court issued notices and adjourned the case for two weeks.
