Inter-faith harmony: Joint efforts needed to curb extremism, says Sindhu

Collective efforts are needed to establish a society based on peace and religious harmony

There is a need to promote inter-faith harmony to make Pakistan a haven of peace, Minister for Minorities Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sindhu said on Wednesday.


He was addressing a national conference on inter-religious harmony arranged by Federal Ministry for Religious Affairs.

“Collective efforts are needed to establish a society based on peace and religious harmony. Personal interests should be set aside and national thinking should be promoted. Practical steps should be taken to eliminate sectarianism, terrorism and social prejudices. All religions give the message of peace and respecting humanity and its welfare. We should make collective efforts for the development of the country,” he said.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, Pakistan Ulema Council chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Jamiat Ahle Hadith Senior Naib Ameer Allama Zubair Ahmed Zaheer, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Bishop of Lahore Irfan Jamil, Archbishop of Lahore Sebastian Shaw, Sardar Sham Singh, Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Siddiqul Farooq, Asiya Nasir, Dr Alexander John Malik and Dr Manohar Chand were present.
