LAHORE:

“The time has come for party workers to overcome their differences and unite,” Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) provincial organiser Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a reception in his honour. Sarwar, the erstwhile governor of the province, urged party activists to raise public awareness regarding the party’s message to foster change. He said PTI chairman Imran Khan had tasked him with strengthening the party at the grassroots. Sarwar said only unity among the rank and file of the party would make this possible. He called on all party workers to participate in consultation meetings being organised with the aim of strengthening the party.

Sarwar said he would strive to improve the party’s structure and image province-wide to make it a more effective organisation in his capacity as its organiser. He said all decisions would be taken after consulting party activists. Sarwar said efforts of party workers had made the PTI a strong political party of national stature. He appreciated the role of women in strengthening democracy and ensuring the provision of justice. Sarwar said the party had managed to win the confidence of the people under Khan’s stewardship.

The nomination process of the PTI’s district-level organisers will commence today (Thursday) with Sarwar reaching out to former party officials and leaders. The erstwhile governor is expected to exchange views regarding nominations and intra-party politics with them. Scheduled meetings at the party’s Cantt office include a series of interactions with the PTI’s former district leadership and party officials from across the province.

Sarwar is expected to meet party leaders and workers from Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura on Thursday. He will also hold consultative meetings to review the party’s reorganisation at the union council level.

Separately, former PTI district presidents came together at the party’s office in the city to discuss its reorganisation and deliberate over the forthcoming local government elections. They decided to forward proposals regarding the party’s reorganisation to Sarwar at the meeting. Former PTI Kasur, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal and Nankana Sahib were among those who were present on the occasion. The former district presidents are expected to call on Sarwar today (Thursday). Former PTI Lahore president Abdul Aleem Khan had hosted the meeting.

Sarwar was appointed as the party’s provincial organiser on Saturday.
