Melodious treat: Munni Begum’s ghazals captivate audience

RAC arranged a musical evening in connection with Rawal Sports and Cultural Festival

Renowned Karachi-based ghazal singer and Pride of Performance Award recipient Munni Begum graced the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) for a ‘Shaam-e-Ghazal’ on Tuesday.

She was invited for a solo performance by RAC and the audience included Senator Najma Hameed, MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, MPA Tehseen Fawad, Punjab Council of the Arts Executive Director Asif Pervaiz, RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed and Naheed Manzoor.

Munni Begum started with Awargi Me Had se Guzar Jana Chahye in her soulful voice to take back the audience into the glorious past of Pakistani music. No one could forget the echo of some of her ghazals such as Tumhare Shehr Ka Mausam Bada Suhana Lage, Ek Bar Muskura Do, Bhoolne Wale Se Koi Kehde, Ae Mere Humnasheen Chal Kahin Aur Chal and many more which enthralled the audience. The crowd was absorbed in her live melodies for more than two hours.

RAC arranged the musical evening in connection with Rawal Sports & Cultural Festival 2015.

Munni Begum started her career in 70s and released her first ghazal album in 1976. The legendary singer was awarded Pride of Performance Award in 2008.

At the end, Ahmed thanked all the distinguished guests terming the evening a great and memorable occasion.
