The apex court judge was addressing a certificate-awarding ceremony at the conclusion of a weeklong training course on “Role of law officers vis-a-vis quick disposal of criminal cases” at the Federal Judicial Academy, here on Saturday.
Justice Khan said that the role of prosecutors in the criminal justice system, at all levels, was very vital.
He said that unfortunately, the prosecutors and the system were facing several problems and challenges and also lapses in the relevant law. “Even then they are trying to deliver,” the judge said.
Justice Khan further stated that the country could combat terrorism and militancy, but for that proper investment in capacity building, infrastructure, among others, was essential.
“Right to life, liberty and security are basic human rights inscribed in the Constitution of Pakistan and the State is under obligation to comply with them,” the judge said.
Justice Khan said, “I strongly believe that effective investigation is imperative to combat crime in the society and for this the government should play its due role to strengthen relevant departments such as police, prosecution, health, etc.
“Moral bankruptcy and corrupt practices should also be discouraged for effective delivery in criminal justice system,” he stressed.
