Eight-year-old girl raped, strangled to death in Haripur

HARIPUR: A minor girl was strangled to death after being raped by unidentified persons in the Sirikort area of Haripur, police officials told The Express Tribune on Saturday.

After an autopsy was conducted, doctors confirmed that the eight-year-old girl, whose identity has not been ascertained as yet, was sexually assaulted. The girl’s body was dumped in a roadside ravine after the brutal act.

DSP Ghazi Hakim Khan said that a passerby spotted a sack in a roadside gorge near the Sirikot bypass some 15 kilometers from the Ghazi Tehsil Hospital Headquarters and informed the police. After the body was recovered by the police, it was shifted to the hospital where Dr Fauzia confirmed that the girl was about eight-years-old and was a student of a private school.

DSP Ghazi quoted the doctor as saying that the girl was first raped and then strangled, after which the rapists put the body in the sack and threw it in the gorge. After the autopsy was conducted, the body was placed in the mortuary and all the police stations of Haripur and neighboring Swabi were subsequently informed, DSP Ghazi told The Express Tribune.
