KARACHI: Former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza was granted on Friday protective bail for seven days in a fresh case of possessing weapons for unlawful purposes — the 14th case registered against the estranged Pakistan Peoples Party leader. A division bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Farooq Shah, granted bail with surety of Rs100,000, directing Mirza to surrender before the relevant trial court by May 29. Mirza’s lawyer, Ashraf Samon, informed the judges that his client had been implicated in yet another FIR, registered at Badin district’s Kario Ghanwar police station. He contended that the police had fabricated the charges against Mirza for political reasons.
