The Sunni Supreme Council (SSC) has advised all local government candidates from Raisaan, Ganjano Kalay and Khanbari union councils not to ask for votes based on religion and sect.
A meeting of the council was held in Gulshan Colony, Hangu on Thursday, led by its chairperson Maulana Abdul Sattar and Maulana Muhammad Yousaf. A number of Sunni candidates from three UCs were present.
It was decided the SSC would conduct a survey of the area for the polls. The council would favour candidates who prove more popular and would ask others to withdraw their candidacy. It was also stated the tribes and general public should follow the SSC’s decision and back their approved candidates.
None of the candidates would ask for votes based on sectarian grounds. The council warned of strict action against any aspirants who go against this decision.
These three union councils have Sunni and Shia populations in equal proportions.
