KARACHI: Security measures around mosques and imambargahs must be improved during Muharram, said city administrator Fazlur Rehman during his visit to some of the more sensitive areas around the city on Saturday.

Barriers should be installed on the streets that surround places of worship so that people or vehicles that have no business being in the area are unable to enter the walls of these spaces, said Rehman while visiting Madinatul Ilm in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Al Mohsin Hall near Sohrab Goth, IRP Ayesha Manzil, Babul Ilm in North Nazimabad and imambargahs in Rizvia Society, Nishtar Park and its surrounding areas. He was accompanied by City District Government, Karachi (CDGK) municipal services department EDO Masood Alam and works and services department EDO Rasheed Mughal.

While expressing his satisfaction regarding the security arrangements made by the CDGK and the Jamshed and Saddar Town Municipal Administrations, he said that “the CDGK has solved almost all the problems” highlighted by the religious scholars, clerics and organisers of shia processions. Special CDGK teams have been formed to respond to any complaint during Muharram, the administrator added.
