SITE Ltd works: CM orders inquiry into scam

Chief Minister orders inquiry against alleged misappropriation of millions of rupees in development works.

KARACHI:
Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has ordered his inspection team (CMIT) to conduct an inquiry against the officials at SITE Limited regarding the alleged misappropriation of millions of rupees in development works.

The chief minister had received complaints from various government and political circles, alleging that former officials at SITE Limited had been involved in “massive irregularities” and that nobody from the authorities had checked on them at the time.

An official from the CM’s secretariat had written a letter to the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) chairman, stating that officials at SITE Limited were involved in irregularities in the department of development works, whereas a cheque of Rs33,289,550 was issued to a contractor before the latter had completed contractual work.

The letter stated that SITE Limited had placed an amount of Rs100 million in foreign banks instead of the banks authorised by the Sindh government for depositing government funds. Shah ordered CMIT to probe the matter. CMIT chairman Abdul Subhan Memon deputed director general (technical) Jinsar Ali Shah to  start his investigations on Monday and will submit a report within 15 days.
