
A murder convict was hanged at Faisalabad Central Jail on Wednesday.
The jail superintendent told The Express Tribune that Muhammad Zulfiqar, a resident of Chak 75-JB Sohal and his three accomplices had hired a taxi from Saddar. They had killed the driver, Arshad Hussain, and had fled in the car after dumping his body in the fields.
“Thikriwala police had registered a case,” he said.
He said a sessions court had awarded death penalty on two counts to Zulfiqar. Ehsan, Naveed and Shabbir were acquitted on benefit of doubt.
He said subsequent appeals to the high court, the Supreme Court and the president had been rejected.
The jail superintendent said on Tuesday some 50 relatives had held a final meeting with him in the jail. He said emotional scenes were witnessed during the meeting. He said the convict had cried before his relatives and asked them to persuade Hussein’s family to forgive him.
He said Zulfiqar was hanged at 5am.
