En route to qatar: Man held with Rs5.29m

ISLAMABAD: Custom officials on Wednesday claimed to have seized Rs5.29 million in foreign and local currency from a passenger heading to Doha from Benazir Bhutto International Airport, said a customs official. The man, identified as Ijaz Baig a resident of Lahore, was carrying foreign currency including $50,000, CA$1550, Thai Baht 260, and Rs27,000. The passenger was travelling to Doha but officials of Pakistan Customs along with Airport Security Force intercepted him and recovered the cash from his handbag. The official said no passenger was allowed to carry over US $10,000 out of the country. Baig was immediately taken into custody and an FIR was registered under the Customs Act 1969 and Foreign Exchange Regulation Act 1947.
