KARACHI: A total of 622 laptops were distributed among the students of Bahria University, Karachi campus, on Wednesday under the 'Prime Minister's Youth Programme' scheme.

A ceremony to distribute laptops to deserving students was held at the university's alBeruni auditorium. This was the second phase of the laptop distribution scheme being undertaken by the university. Addressing the ceremony, Bahria University director, Commodore Mohsin Hayat Malik congratulated the students and urged them to work hard.

According to the director, all the students completed a form to determine whether they are eligible to receive a laptop under this scheme.  Malik said the students filled out a form on the Higher Education Commission's (HEC) website after which the HEC emailed the university names of the students who met the criteria.

"In the first phase of the laptop distribution scheme, 249 laptops were distributed among the students," he told The Express Tribune. He said the university is registered with the Higher Education Commission, and the university students took part in the youth programme along with the students of other private sector universities.

These laptops have only been distributed among the students of the Karachi campus of the Bahria University.

Assistant director of Bahria University's Karachi campus, Hajra Asif, said the university had distributed laptops among students of every faculty. "We have distributed laptops on a merit basis to the students," she said. She explained that the students who achieved high GPAs in their semester examinations were eligible to receive laptops under this scheme.

Saba Ali, a student who received a laptop under this scheme, said she was very happy to receive one. "This scheme is really good, but it must reach underprivileged students as well," she said.
