War on terror: US special envoy hails Pakistan’s sacrifices

ISLAMABAD: US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Daniel Feldman on Tuesday acknowledged Islamabad’s successes thus far in achieving its ongoing military offensive against militants as well as sacrifices it rendered in the fight against terrorism.

Ambassador Feldman met army chief General Raheel Sharif at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where issues of mutual interest and the regional security situation came under discussion, according to the military’s media wing, the ISPR. He appreciated the sacrifices and efforts of Pakistan’s security forces for peace and stability in the region.

Separately, Ambassador Feldman met Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, the foreign office said in a statement. He was accompanied by US Ambassador Richard Olson. It said the discussions covered Pakistan-US bilateral relations and the regional situation.

Aziz noted the positive direction of ongoing cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of defence, economy and energy. He also highlighted the comprehensive measures taken by Pakistan to counter terrorism and extremism.

Aziz also briefed the US dignitary about the improvement in Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan and the current status of relations with India. Ambassador Feldman expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the efforts to root out terrorism and extremism and the success achieved so far.
