FAISALABAD:

Scores of residents of Maddoki, Jhang on Monday protested against Satellite Town police, alleging that they had killed in a raid.

The protesters gathered in front of the DHQ Hospital and staged a sit-in there.  Talking to newsmen, Abdul Ghafoor, one of the protesters, said a sub inspector had led the raid at Muzaffar Sipra’s house in Maddoki.

“When Muzaffar asked the SI why the policemen had broken into his house, the officer beat him up. His subordinates too joined him and together beat Muzaffar to death.”

He said Muzaffar had begged for mercy and had apologised but the officers had ignored his pleas.

He said when Sipra died, the women in the house started screaming and neighbours began gathering around the house on hearing the commotion. He said the SI and his team fled, leaving Sipra’s body behind.

“We took the body to the DHQ hospital’s mortuary for post mortem examination,” he said. The protesters chanted slogans against the police and urged the authorities to action against the SI.

The protestors parked their tractors on the Jhang-Gojra road and blocked it for traffic for several hours. On being informed, City Circle DSP Tahir Abbas Khichi took a police team to the site and negotiated with the protesters. He assured them that the SI would be investigated and action would be taken against those who were found guilty of beating Muzaffar to death.  The protesters dispersed on this assurance.
