ISLAMABAD: Following a vilification campaign against Information Pervaiz Rasheed for his ‘controversial’ statement on madrassas, senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah explained on Monday that the minister's speech had been quoted out of context by a “select group,” Express News reported.

The former Punjab law minister, who is the first senior PML-N leader to publicly defend the federal minister, said that a campaign was being orchestrated against Rasheed which was akin to fanning sectarian terrorism. He explained that parts of the minister's speech had been presented out of context.

Sanaullah added that the information minister was ready to clarify his statement before ulemas.

The former law minister urged authorities to take action against the “select group” which was fanning the issue.

Last week, the information came under fire from religious groups for a comment he made about madrassas.
