MUZAFFARABAD:

Four women were among five members of a family who were killed in a road accident in Jattlan Mirpur area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday evening.

The police said Zahid Hussain, a resident of Kohil Panjari Mirpur, was travelling along with his mother, two sisters and an aunt to attend the funeral of a relative in Sara-i-Alamgir in Punjab. The ill-fated family travelling in a car met an accident near Jattlan, some 230 kilometres away from Muzaffarabad, the AJK capital. The car overturned and fell into the Jhelum Canal.

Locals and police rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies from the canal late into the night. Hussain’s deceased mother was identified as Gulzar Bibi, sisters Ruqaya Bibi and Nasreen Bibi and aunt Nazir Begum. The bodies were handed over to family members who buried them in the ancestral graveyard in Kohil Panjari Mirpur.
