Pairing Up: Zoo seeks partners for lonely animals

LAHORE: Lahore Zoo is seeking assistance from private farms and administrations of wildlife parks in the province to find partners for several animal species, Education Officer Kiran Saleem said on Friday. She said the animals for whom the zoo administration was finding partners were a female chimpanzee (named Honey), a male wallaby, a macro-pad specie found in Australia and New Guinea, and two brown female bears. She said the administration had already found partners for a Llama and a tiger.  Saleem said a walk-in aviary at the zoo had been closed for the public for safety and health considerations. She said the visitors could, however, view bird species including three pairs of macaws, Amazonian parrots, from outside the aviary. She said with the onset of summer months the zoo administration had arranged electric coolers to lower the temperature in the cages of big cats like pumas, tigers, leopards and lions.
