According to initial reports, Ejaz Hyder died on the spot after four unidentified men on two motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on his government car.
Police arrived at the crime scene immediately and found nine bullets near the driving seat of the car after the assailants shot Hyder in face and chest. However, further investigation is underway.

The victim, residing in Karachi was removed from his post as Hyderabad jail superintendent over a month ago.
Further, after being informed of the incident, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif demanded a thorough investigation to be carried out.
Sindh inspector general of police and additional inspector general of police also briefed Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on the attack at the Chief Minister House.
The officials informed Shah that around three women were accompanying the deceased during the attack and none of them was his wife.
"The attack occurred due to personal enmity," they added.
Soon after the incident, around four political workers were reportedly detained during an operation conducted by Rangers in the area.
Meanwhile, a woman was also shot dead in Karachi's Kharadar area. Her body was shifted to Civil Hospital right after the attack.
On May 1, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bin Qasim Abdul Fateh Sangri was killed in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area of Karachi.
According to police, unidentified assailants opened fire on the car of the deceased and fled from the scene. Two other policemen, Nazeer and Farooq, were also killed in the incident.
