Cristiano Ronaldo did not donate €7 million (£5 million) to the Nepal relief effort, Save the Children told BuzzFeed News.

The story appeared in the French football magazine, So Foot, and was published around the world.

The story said that Ronaldo, a Save the Children Ambassador, donated €7 million as it matched his shirt number.

But Save the Children has a different perspective on the story. They denied receiving any donations but admitted that the star shared the links to the donation portals on his Facebook and Twitter pages.

Save the Children said the Portuguese star – who has an impressive record of charity work – had 'used his voice and global visibility to raise awareness of critical issues facing the most vulnerable children around the world, including those affected by the April 25 earthquake in Nepal'.
