KARACHI:
Engro Corporation announced on Wednesday that chemical engineer and long term employee Khalid Siraj Subhani had taken over as the company’s new president and chief executive officer (CEO).

Subhani, who has been with the company for 32 years, replaces Ali Ansari who served Engro for a term of three years and was responsible for successfully revamping the company, an official statement added.

The new CEP was described as a seasoned industry veteran who started his career as an operations engineer with the then Exxon Chemical Pakistan Limited in 1983.

“The new official has seen the transition and growth of Engro in different roles over the years and has been a major part of the company’s success,” the statement added.

A chemical engineer by profession, Subhani has held many important roles at Engro. After his initial years, he worked in various manufacturing and non-manufacturing divisions before taking over as the CEO of Engro Fertilizers in 2010 where he provided oversight for the EnVen Expansion Project.

Prior to his role as Engro Corp president, he was the president and CEO of Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited, the group’s petrochemicals business, since 2012.

Engro Polymer & Chemicals – the only company in Pakistan that produces Poly-Vinyl-Chloride (PVC) – reported a profit of Rs50 million in 2012 after a gap of three years. The company consolidated its profit in 2013 to Rs717 million. However, due to unfavourable market conditions, it posted a loss of Rs1.02 billion in calendar year 2014.
