LAHORE:
Resolutions seeking a raise in the minimum wage, expansion of River Ravi Bridge and a crackdown on pharmacies involved in sale of unlicensed drugs were submitted in the Punjab Assembly on Monday. Pakistan Peoples Party’s lawmaker Faiza Malik’s resolution sought directives for the provincial government to raise the minimum wage in the upcoming fiscal year to Rs25,000. Currently, the minimum wage for adult unskilled workers in the province is Rs12,000. In his resolution against sale of unlicensed drugs, Pakistan Muslim League-Q lawmaker Aamir Sultan Cheema said various pharmacies were selling sleep-inducing drugs in the province without obtaining a licence for the purpose from the provincial government. He said the government should take identify and shut down these pharmacies. In the third resolution submitted in the assembly secretariat on Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf lawmaker Mian Alsam Iqbal said traffic jams had become a routine on the new bridge constructed on the River Ravi. Therefore, he said, the government should be directed to widen the bridge.
